Find out what a rewards card is really worth to you. The calculator adds the rewards you’d earn on your own spending and the credits you’ll actually use, then subtracts the annual fee and any interest.

Credit Card Rewards Net Value Calculator

Work out whether a credit card’s annual fee is worth it: rewards from your spending, credits you actually use and interest, for the first year and every year after.

Rewards = Σ monthly spending × 12 × rewards rate × point value Net value each year = rewards + credits used − annual fee − interest and fees First year = net value + welcome bonus

Example: Check: $200 cash back and $100 of credits used, $95 fee. Net value: $200 + $100 − $95: $205 a year.

How to use the Credit Card Rewards Net Value Calculator

Enter the card’s annual fee and what one point is worth to you (1 cent for cash back). For each spending category, enter what you spend a month and the card’s rewards rate. Add only the credits you would really use, the welcome bonus value for the first year and any interest or fees you pay. The green box shows the net value each year, and the second card shows the first year with the welcome bonus.

Assumptions and limits

  • Use the card’s real rates and your own spending; CalcKite doesn’t verify issuer offers.
  • The welcome bonus only counts in the first year.
  • Carrying a balance usually costs more than any rewards, which is why interest is subtracted.

Formula

Rewards = Σ monthly spending × 12 × rewards rate × point value Net value each year = rewards + credits used − annual fee − interest and fees First year = net value + welcome bonus

Frequently asked questions

Is a credit card annual fee worth it?

Only if the rewards and credits you actually use are worth more than the fee. Compare against a no-fee card that pays a flat 1.5–2% to see the real gain.

How much are credit card points worth?

Usually about 1 cent each when redeemed for cash. Some programs give more for travel transfers, but use a conservative value unless you redeem that way.
